The collar has two identical semi-cylindrical shells with ridged rims at each end. Semi-circular ring shaped end plates fit into the lips of the rims. The shell halves are fastened together via axial gripping brackets which have holes to line up with holes in the corresp. shell half. Attached to one pair of end plates are several flexible strips. When the pipe is inserted into the collar, the strips are bent at the point where they are pierced by weakening holes. The cavity between the pipe and the inside of the collar is filled with high temp. foamed plastics material.
