A muscle-exercising apparatus includes a board 27 which can slide on a slideway system connecting a pair of carrier frames. A person seated on the board raises himself on the inclined slideway system by pulling on the handles 52 carried by a cable 40, the cable forming part of a cable and pulley system. In order to increase resistance, resilient bands are wound up between the axles on the board and on the beam respectively. The cable and pulley system is such that the reduction ratio (speed reduction percentage) between the handles 52 and the board 27 is 3:1 or more. <IMAGE>
