NEW MATERIAL:2-Acetoxy-4-(2-acetoxyethylidene)-but-2-enolide of formula I. USE:Intermediate for perfumery, agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by adding acetic acid and optionally a catalyst (preferably sodium acetate) to D- glucono-1,5-lactone of formula II, reacting at 80-110 deg.C for 0.5-1.5hr, adding acetic anhydride to the reaction system, reacting at 90-100 deg.C for 1-1.5hr, removing the acetic acid from the system under reduced pressure, optionally adding a proper amount of acetic anhydride and reacting at 90-100 deg.C for 1-1.5hr.
