This invention relates to a method for conveying viscous fermentable media and a pneumatic conveying device which can be used for this method. The method is characterised in that the medium to be conveyed is initially introduced via a first pipeline (105) to a pressurised container (20) until a predetermined upper level has been reached, then the pressurised container is pressurised with compressed air and the pressurised container is evacuated via a second pipeline (100), the compressed air displacing the medium to be conveyed until a predetermined lower level has been reached, the air pressure in the container then being lowered to a predetermined desired value, after which the pressurised container is again filled with the medium to be conveyed. The method according to the invention has the advantage that the occurrence of powerful currents or turbulence in the medium to be conveyed is prevented. The pneumatic conveying device according to the invention does not have any mechanical moving parts which come into contact with the conveyed medium during the conveying process. The conveying device can, for example, be used to convey liquid manure of sewage sludge, even when they contain solids or foreign bodies. <IMAGE>
