A pipe 1 with an end flange 3 and for vehicle engine exhaust gases is secured mechanically, via plastic deformation of the same, inside a hole 2 defined in the aforementioned flange 3. A bush 4 having a projection 15 has an end flared to engage a frusto-conical portion 8 of hole 2. The portion of pipe 1 inside hole 2 is deformed to secure the pipe 1 and bush 4 together. Pipe 1 and bush 4 are also secured together by depressions 5, 6 formed by crimping. In an alternative embodiment, the hole (2, Fig. 3) has an undulating inner profile (16), and the pipe and bush are secured in the hole by means of rolling. <IMAGE>
