An aqueous slurry containing Ni powder or a mixture of Ni and Cn powder containing up to 90% Cu, is applied to a steel strip, dried, hot rolled below sintering temperature, annealed and then rolled to full density. Methyl cellulose is added to the slurry as a binder and the coated strip may be pre-heated to 500 DEG -650 DEG C. in cracked ammonia prior to hot rolling at 200 DEG -650 DEG C. in a reducing atmosphere when the temperature is above 500 DEG C. Annealing is effected in cracked ammonia up to 800 DEG C. preferably at 600 DEG -700 DEG C. the final rolling is preferably cold rolling in two stages with intermediate annealing but hot rolling may also be used. Final annealing is carried out up to 800 DEG C. The Ni powder has a particle size of 3 to 4 microns and the slurry surfactants such as polyoxyalkylated polyalkylene glycol and silicone anti-foam emulsion. |
