摘要 Process for characterising silicate paints and silicate emulsion paints in accordance with DIN 18 363 and for enriching the coatings with silicate. The addition of lithium hydroxide (LiOH) to silicate paints (binder: sodium silicate (waterglass)) results, during the chemical hardening (curing) of the coatings, in the formation of lithium carbonate and lithium silicate. Lithium carbonate is only sparingly soluble in water, while lithium silicate is insoluble in water and acids. Traces of lithium can be detected by spectral analysis. It is possible to characterise the silicate paints using LiOH, so that these products can be unambiguously detected by analysis even after many years of weather exposure and after the action of acids. Characterisation is also possible using caesium hydroxide or rubidium hydroxide. The formation of lithium silicates from sodium silicate and lithium hydroxide implies an enrichment of silicate in the silicate coatings. The water in the silicate paints is replaced partially or completely by lithium hydroxide solution. The enrichment with silicate during the formation of silicates from the liquid phase as the coating hardens (cures) increases the weather resistance of the coatings.
