An article which can regain its shape under heat, for example a tape, tube or the like, consists of at least two crosslinked plastic layers between which a reinforcing insert is arranged. The layers 6 and 7 can regain their shape. The reinforcing insert consists of a mesh of filaments 11, running transversely to the shrinkage direction, of high-strength material to which, via intersection points 13b, further filaments 12 are attached which have residual elongation capacity or are elastically deformed at the shrinkage temperature of layers 6 and 7. The reinforcing insert 9 is embedded in a thermoplastic layer 8 which softens at the shrinkage temperature. <IMAGE>
