1,065,561. Separating particles from gases. BOEING CO. July 9, 1964 [July 30, 1963], No. 28342/64. Heading BIT. [Also in Division F1] Air containing dust and liquid particles entering at 19 is induced by lip 18 to converge towards a streamlined member 31, but beyond 18 the air flows along duct 21 and intake passage 12, whilst the dust etc. continues towards member 31 and through an opening 30 leading to a collector 26, 27. Part 27 is connected to a receptacle (not shown) and a further duct from the latter leads back at 42 to a manifold 43 having a series of perforations 44 effecting communication with duct 21. Suction created at 44 by air passing along duct 21 and passage 12 is effective to draw dust, &c., from part 26, where it first collects, through a narrow gap 29 into part 27 and thence into the receptacle. 11 is the compressor of a gas turbine engine and 10' a starter motor. Preferably the whole inlet 16 incorporates electric heating coils. |
