The invention is a recognition of the fact that conventional flat diaphragms have to tear in the middle during a stroke of the diaphragm if the stroke becomes long, because the stresses in the middle of the diaphragm then become too large. Therefore the centre of the diaphragm is reinforced, i.e. provided with a thicker centre section that is barely flexible radially, so that the flexing of the diaphragm is restricted to the radially outer section. In this section, the internal stresses inside the diaphragm are smaller, and it pumps a larger amount. In one of the exemplary embodiments, an axially movable control body is located above the diaphragm, which controls the intake and outlet cross-section to the chamber above the diaphragm, and prevents the diaphragm or any part thereof entering into sections of the fluid lines. Finally, exemplary embodiments with several diaphragms arranged in the same unit, for example one above another axially, and the theoretical bases of the diaphragms are analysed, and the bases for calculating its design are created. <IMAGE>
