摘要 In order to detect flames of, in particular, multi-flame burner systems having at least one radiation-sensitive sensor which is arranged remote from the flame (2) and a downstream processing stage (12) which evaluates the sensor output signal, provision is made according to the invention of a transmitter (8A) which is directed onto the flame (2) and irradiates the latter with an ultrasonic wave, and, as sensor, of an ultrasonic receiver (8B) which is arranged in the ultrasonic reflection region of the flame, which are preferably operated using the pulse/echo method in which the received signal is evaluated as a function of the transit time. As a result, it is possible to achieve independently of the type of fuel and regardless of short-time, operationally induced fluctuations an extremely reliable detection of individual flames which is of high-quality selectivity in conjunction with a far reaching elimination of disturbing effects which are normally caused by the combustion chamber walls, by the further flames located behind the actual flame, and by the background radiation and the like. <IMAGE>
