A device is described which is used to cool gases or to cool and dry gases in such a way that the tubes through which the medium to be cooled flows are situated in a cooling liquid and arranged in such a way that the curvature becomes ever narrower in the flow direction and finally opens out tangentially into an eliminator, as a result of which the centrifugal forces exerted on the droplets become ever larger with continuing approach to the eliminator. The arrangement can take the form in this case of a spiral in a plane or, for the purpose of more effectively discharging the condensate, of a spiral cone or a combination of a plane or conical spiral with a cylindrical arrangement. Additional reduction in the cross-section, or parallel arrangements which are switched in as a function of quantity can even out or improve the degree of expulsion.
