PURPOSE:To improve the correcting capability by coding a code of at least one series among plural series error correction codes or detection codes based on a prescribed parity check matrix. CONSTITUTION:A reception signal inputted from a terminal 101 is inputted to a syndrome generating circuit 102 and the syndrome generated therefrom is inputted to an arithmetic circuit 105. The arithmetic circuit 105 controlled by a control circuit 109 applies prescribed arithmetic processing by an order comparator 110 based on an inter-code distance, error number to be corrected, an initial valve and the syndrome. Whether or not a coefficient outputted from the arithmetic circuit 105 is '0' is decided by a coefficient decision circuit 111, the arithmetic operation is applied by the arithmetic circuit 105 and an error pattern generated at the location is obtained.
