PURPOSE:To manufacture a long life composite roll causing no crack at a build-up welding time by subjecting an intermediate plastic material to powder build-up welding on the surface of a base metal and subjecting a specific wear resistant material to powder build-up welding further. CONSTITUTION:An austenitic stainless steel is first subjected to powder build-up welding in the space with a base metal 3 as the crack generation prevention of a padding layer by the plastic deformation of an intermediate plastic material 2. In order to give wear resistance the alloy consisting of 2.0-3.0 C, <=2.0% Si, <=3.0% Ni, 26-32% Cr, <=3.0% Fe, 11-14% W, balance Co with impurities elements in wt.% is subjected to powder build-up welding. Consequently the crack generation at the time of build-up welding is prevented and the remarkable improvement in a service life is enabled as well.
