PURPOSE:To enable printing to be executed at a high speed without requiring hystenesis control, by a method wherein a lots of flat thermal heads are arranged on an outer peripheral surface of an insulating cylindrical substrate, the thermal head having completed printing drive of one line is rotated and successively exchanged for the thermal head of a next line. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical thermal head 55 is so constructed that axial electrodes 49 and electrodes 53 of circumferential direction cross at right angles pinching a heating resistor layer 51 between them. For instance, when the all axial electrodes 49 are made cathodic side and the all electrodes 53 of circumferential direction are made anodic side, a heating resistor at a part where both electrodes cross is heated and a heating area 57, i.e. a heating element 59 is formed. Then, when a size of a fixed electrode 63 to an arranged pitch of the axial electrodes 49 is suitably selected, the axial electrode through which current is actually caused to flow becomes only one piece and only one line of heating elements 59 become of a driven possible manner. Further, when the thermal head 55 is driven while being rotated in the arrow (d) direction, the heating element of the line in which driving is completed radiates heat until it comes again into contact with the fixed electrode 63. Heating elements of other lines successively come into contact with the fixed electrode 63 during that time and printing is continuously carried out. |
