PURPOSE:To prevent the entrapment of slag and oxidation and to obtain a sound and clean cast slab by closing the upper face on molten metal in a mold, inserting inert gas in an airtight chamber, giving ultrasonic vibration to the mold under inert gas atmosphere without using mold powder and casting. CONSTITUTION:After arranging a submerged nozzle 1 fixed at lower part of a tundish to the prescribed position in the mold for continuous casting, a covering member 12 is assembled on the upper face of the mold 2. The covering member 12 is pressed on the side face of the nozzle through sealing material 17 so as to insert the submerged nozzle 1, to hold to the airtightness. Next, the molten metal is poured into the mold 2 from the submerged nozzle 1 through discharging holes 3 and immediately the exhaust hole 13 of airtight chamber 11 is opened, to introduce the inert 4 gas from an introducing hole 14. Successively, at the time of becoming the inert gas atmosphere in the air-tight chamber 11, the exhaust hole 13 is closed and the inert gas is supplied so as to maintain the pressure in the airtight chamber to the positive pressure. Next, before opening the casting, the vibration is applied to the mold 2 by the ultrasonic vibration device arranged on the mold, the gas introduction and the ultrasonic vibration is kept till completion of the casting.
