PURPOSE:To obtain detailed information on the KANJI (Chinese character)- KANA (Japanese syllabary) character string with no second consulation of a Japanese word dictionary, a Chinese-Japanese dictionary, etc., by providing a means to require the detailed information on character string, a means to retrieve said detailed information, and a detailed information part. CONSTITUTION:When the detailed information is desired to a character string converted by a KANA/KANJI converting part 3, a request is given to a control part 5 via a detailed information request means 1b. The part 5 outputs said character string to a detailed information retrieving part 4. The part 4 refers to a detailed information part 7 containing the information on a Japanese diction ary and a Chinese-Japanese dictionary such as each meaning to the Japanese words, the example sentences using those meanings, radicals, the number of strokes, etc., and outputs the detailed information to the part 5. The part 5 outputs the received information to a display part 2. Thus, it is possible to obtain the detailed information on the KANJI-KANA character strings without consulting again the Japanese dictionary, the Chinese-Japanese dictionary, etc.
