PURPOSE:To surely detect the breakage of a wire electrode by fixing an electric conductive material onto the peripheral surface of a pinch roller which holds the wire electrode and installing a pinch roller voltage detector and connecting a gap voltage detecting wire between the wire electrode and a work. CONSTITUTION:An electric conductor made of stainless steel, etc., is fixedly installed onto the periphery of a pinch roller 16, and a pinch roller voltage detector 17 for detecting the voltage of a wire electrode 3 is installed. A gap voltage detecting wire 11 is installed onto an upper wire guide 7, and connected with an electric conduction plate 10 which conducts with the wire electrode 3 and a grounding plate 12. Further, the grounding plate 12 and work piece 9 are connected. and the gap voltage between the wire electrode 3 and the work piece 9 is detected. When the wire electrode 3 is wire-broken, the voltage becomes '0', and since the gap voltage keeps a high voltage, a comparing means outputs an output signal, and the breakage of the wire electrode 3 can be detected.
