A black and white signal is colorized by combining it with a tag signal, representing designated colors to be used to fill in bounded areas created by a computer, to obtain a hue signal. The saturation of the hue signal is then determined in accordance with a confidence signal indicating the probability of color error such that the hue is less saturated at areas at which it is most likely to be mixed with other colors. The saturation-adjusted hue signal is then mixed with the original black and white signal to obtain the colorized signal. |
