PURPOSE:To omit the useless reformation processing of a reading dictionary and to shorten the processing time of a character processor, by reforming a reading dictionary based on an instruction of an operator. CONSTITUTION:A read string supplied from a read string input means is divided by a read string dividing means for each conversion unit with reference to a 2nd dictionary. These divided read strings are converted into a KANJI (Chi nese character)/KANA (Japanese syllabary) sentence by a read string conversion means with reference to a 1st dictionary. Then a dictionary reforming means is started by a dictionary reformation instructing means and reforms the 2nd dictionary by extracting only the reading information out of the 1st dictionary. Thus, it is possible to omit the useless reformation processing of a reading dictionary and to shorten the processing time of a character processor.
