PURPOSE:To suppress generation of the cratering and crawling which arise from a base and to permit uniform and stable coating by storing the base under the conditions for storing the base set at 23-50 deg.C prior to coating of coating liquids on the surface of the traveling base. CONSTITUTION:The base 2 for a photosensitive material travels while said base is wound around a coating roll 1. The coating liquids 3, 4, 5 flow successively superposedly on the sliding surface of a coating machine and form a ribbon- shaped liquid pool, known as a bead 11, between a lip part 9 of the coating machine and the base 2 in said lip part. The coating liquid is coated on the surface of the base 2 via the bead 11. The base 2 has surface lamination layers 12, 14 on both faces of middle paper 13. The surface of the base 2 after the coating is cratered and crawled by large and small defect parts 15 or 15' existing in the lamination layers. Such cratering and crawling are suppressed by storing the base for >=24hr at 25-50 deg.C, more preferably 25-30 deg.C, then subjecting the base to slide bead coating. |
