PURPOSE:To homogenize a display by constituting a scanning signal of a simple waveform, and resetting it at every scan, and thereafter, displaying it. CONSTITUTION:A scanning signal applied to scanning electrodes 1, 1... consists of a scanning period signal and a non-scanning period signal which have been divided into four,and with respect to voltages of V1>V2<=V3<V4 or V1>V2>=V3>V4, as for the scanning period signal, a first divided period, a second divided period, a third divided period and a fourth divided period consist of each voltage of a compensation selecting voltage, a write selecting voltage, a compensation selecting voltage, and a write selecting voltage, respectively, and the non-scanning period signal is constituted of a repeating signal whose voltage value is V2 or V3 and which has an inverted waveform of the scanning period signal. Also, a driving signal applied to signal electrodes 2, 2... consists of a signal corresponding to four-divided time of the scanning period signal by a selecting or non-selecting voltage. In this state, a picture element of a scanning part is reset at every scan. In such a way, a reset interval of the whole screen becomes constant and the generation of a variable density difference of the contrast is prevented.
