PURPOSE:To prevent generation of air bubbles in a liquid crystal layer by joining a substrate of a liquid crystal cell by adhesive particles scattering in spacers. CONSTITUTION:A non-spacer region A where the spacers 3... do not exist is formed on the substrate 1 by previously imposing a frame-shaped mask 2 on the substrate 1 and sprinkling the spacers 3... thereon from above. The adhesive particles 6... are incorporated into the spacers 3.... A sealing material 5 consisting of an epoxy resin or the like is formed by means such as screen printing on such substrate 1. A substrate on which transparent electrodes and oriented film are formed is registered and superposed on this substrate 1. While these substrates are kept lightly pressed by using a hot press or the like, the sealing material 5 is cured and the adhesive particles 6 scattered in the spacers 3... are melted and cured. Two sheets of the substrates are adhered by the sealing material 5 around the same and the many adhesive particles 6... existing at the center thereof by which both are integrally joined. The generation of air bubbles at the low temp. is thereby prevented.
