PURPOSE:To miniaturize a device, to make it light weight, and to realize fast access, by providing plural grating areas in which the grating directions of a polarizing diffraction grating are different with each other, and providing plural optical detectors so as to receive diffracted light waveguided from each of the grating areas. CONSTITUTION:A beam emitted from a semiconductor laser 1, after transmitting a recording medium 5-2, generating the rotation of a beam polarizing plane by Faraday effect depending on the direction of the magnetization of the medium, and transmitting a substrate 5-1, is made incident on an integrated light detector 23. The incident light is diffracted by grating couplers 23-1 and 23-2 that are polarizing diffraction gratings, and is waveguided in the waveguide in a waveguide layer 23-4. Light waveguided through the waveguide is detected by an optical detector 23-6, etc., via a waveguide lens 23-5, etc. The light diffracted by the grating coupler 23-2 is waveguide in a direction of (y), and is condensed on an optical detector 23-11 by a waveguide lens 23-10. In such a way, it is possible to obtain a miniaturized and light magneto-optical information recorder capable of accessing at high speed. |
