PURPOSE:To shorten the recovery time of a developing device by detecting the presence or the absence of the developing device, which is stopped in an developing device transporting path, by each developing device presence/absence detecting means at the time of the occurrence of trouble and recovering the developing device to the side of a developing operation position or a developing device carrying-out position, which the developing device is nearer to, in accordance with the detection result. CONSTITUTION:If the color developing device is stopped on the way of transportation because of trouble or the like, the developing device is recovered to the side of the developing operation position or the developing device carrying- out position which the developing device is nearer to. That is, if the developing device is on the way of transportation, only a detecting means 40 detects this color developing device to output the output or a detecting means 38 and 39 outputs the output together with the detecting means 40, and a control part operates a developing device supply mechanism system in accordance with outputs of these means 38-40 so that the color developing device is recovered to the side of the developing operation position or the developing device carrying-out position. Thus, the developing device is recovered in a short period.
