PURPOSE:To reduce error characters due to the selection error of a homonym by previously registering meaning information of KANJI (Chinese character) strings or examples and displaying corresponding meaning information or the example with the candidate KANJI string at the time of displaying the homonym. CONSTITUTION:If an operator judges that the displayed candidate KANJI string and the example are unappropriate for a document which is under generation at present, a KANJI conversion key is depressed again and a second candidate character string is displayed. If the KANJI conversion key is depressed furthermore, a third candidate KANJI string and the example are displayed. At this point, the candidate KANJI string in the middle of display is judged to be the most appropriate in the homonyms, and character keys except for the KANJI conversion key are depressed. A control part 7 counts the number of characters in the example including [ ] in the candidate character string displayed on a text memory 5. The character strings for the number of counted characters are read from the back of a text buffer 6, and are returned from the example start position of the memory 5, whereby the example in the middle of display is deleted.
