PURPOSE:To eliminate uneven adjustment in the widthwise direction of a lip and to safely and precisely adjust the opening, by introducing a fluid into a lip opening adjusting tube, and regulating the fluid pressure to adjust the lip opening and to correct the deformation of the lip opening. CONSTITUTION:The compressed air in a main air knife body 4 is blown onto a surface to be coated to smooth the surface. A fixing lip 7 of one among a pair of lips constituting the lip part 5 of an air-knife coater 3 is fixed, the other lip is used as the opening and closing lip 6, and the lip opening is adjusted. In addition, a fixing pin 11 used as the fulcrum for slightly oscillating the tip of the lip 6 and also used for fixing the lip 6 to a fixing member 4a is provided, and the opening adjusting tube 10 into which a liq. is introduced from the outside is furnished. The fluid pressure is then regulated to slightly oscillate the lip 6 with the fixing pin 11 as the fulcrum, and the opening is adjusted. The deformation of the opening due to the deformation of the main body 4 resulting from the air pressure in the main body 4 is simultaneously corrected.
