PURPOSE:To remove algae, such as water-bloom, together with P-compds. at the same time, by adding a treating agent comprising pulverous reaction product of clay mineral with an inorganic acid to water contg. algae, and floating up flocculated floc formed of said algae and said treating agent. CONSTITUTION:50-1,000ppm (per water contg. algae) treating agent consisting of a powdery reaction product of clay mineral and 10-90wt.% inorganic acid (e.g. H2SO4) per Al2O3 and Fe2O3 components in the clay mineral is added to water contg. algae. Then, flocculated floc of this treating agent with the algae is floated up and the floc is removed. Thus, living algae such as water- floom are floated in the form of concentrated floc and removed utilizing a relatively inexpensively available treating agent having no adverse effect on other livings, and P-compds. contained in the water causing generation of water- bloom are removed at the same time. The purification of water is thus performed effectively.
