PURPOSE:To obtain simply and efficiently the title compound which is used as a feedstock for synthesis of fine chemicals such as medicines, agrochemicals and perfumes without formation of by-products, by allowing 2-butyne-1-ol to react with hydrogen in the presence of a certain catalyst under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:A combination of nickel boride with an amine is used as a catalyst to hydrogenate 2-butyne-1-ol of formula I into the compound of formula II, substantially at room temperature and normal pressure, preferably in a solvent of aqueous methanol or aqueous ethanol containing 0-10% water, in 1-3mol concentration of the compound of formula I using 0.1-0.3mol/mol of the butynol of an amine such as ethylenediamine. The nickel boride is preferably P-2 nickel boride which is prepared by reaction of nickel acetate with sodium borohydride in ethanol. |
