PURPOSE:To make it possible to eliminate the necessity of cumbersome work by providing a disc secured to a core member onto which a tape is wound, a rotation limiting member which may abut against the disc, a spring means for allowing the rotation limiting member to abut against the disc and a release means for separating the rotation limiting member from the disc when a cassette is loaded. CONSTITUTION:When a ribbon cassette is loaded on a carriage 11, a cassette casing 21 is secured by a pawl 13 while a releasing projection 19a is inserted into an insertion hole 39. Then, the projection 19a abuts against a stopper 37 to separate the latter from discs 27, 29 overcoming the resilient forces of leaf springs 33, 35, and therefore, the rotational limitation to a wind-up ribbon shaft 23 and a feed ribbon shaft is released to allow an ink ribbon 31 to move. Further, when the cassette is removed from the carriage 11, the casing 21 is released from the pawl 13 while the projection 19a is pulled off from the insertion hole 39. Further, the stopper 37 is made to abut against the peripheral edges of the discs 27, 29 by the resilient forces of the leaf springs 33, 35, and is secured. Accordingly, the rotation of the ribbon shafts 23, 25 is limited, thereby it is possible to prevent the movement of the ribbon 31.
