There is described the control of the crushing gap width of a gyratory crusher of the kind which includes a crusher head which is driven by a power unit and which can be adjusted positionally in relation to a crusher shell by means of an hydraulic motor, for the purpose of adjusting the crushing gap. In this regard, the power consumption of the crusher, the pressure load on the crusher head, and the width of the crushing gap are determined continuously, and the gap width is adjusted, above a pre-determined minimum gap width value, in accordance with the power consumption and pressure load. The crushing gap width is maintained, above the minimum value thereof, at a setting substantially in accordance with a control function which is conditionally dependent on both the power consumption and the pressure load, and which is so selected as to provide an intended crushing effect in respect of the material being crushed. |
