A machine for packing under vacuum or in a controlled atmosphere and provided with bells and lids which have been fixedly connected to two separate, annular conveyors, the respective tracks of which are located in two separate planes lying horizontally one above the other. The inferior conveyor is longer and is provided with a plurality of bells spaced at an equal distance apart, their attachment surface being directed upwards, whilst the superior conveyor is shorter and has been provided with a smaller number of lids spaced at an equal distance apart and at an identical spacing relative to the bells but with the attachment surface directed downwards. Both the conveyors run through at least one geometrically identical section, in which, in stationary state, kinematic equality is obtained, in which perfect joining together is realized by the attachment surface of each individual lid and the attachment surface of below- passing corresponding bells being placed one beneath the other. Upstream and downstream of the section in which the state of kinematic likeness arises between the two conveyors, the bells lie always open at the top to allow technological works to be carried out for the preparation and finishing of each passing bag which is constantly left in the said bell. <IMAGE>
