PURPOSE:To permit a machine to support the generation of simple documents by permitting the machine to give a warning if the number of characters in one sentence exceeds a specified number of characters. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed program processing is executed whenever a character string is inputted. If the content of a counter for numbers of characters 4 exceeds the number of characters 50 before a punctuation mark or a period showing the end of a sentence is inputted, a warning means 6 is driven and a buzzer rings. If the sentence ends and the punctuation mark or the period is inputted before the content of the counter for number of characters 4 exceeds the number of characters 50, the flag of a decision part for number of characters 3 is turned off by the input. If the leading end of a next sentence is inputted, an initialized routine is executed similarly as the case of the first sentence, and then information related to the leading position of the next sentence is stored in a memory 5. It is similarly discriminated whether the number of characters in one sentence exceeds the prescribed number of characters 50 with respect to the next sentence.
