PURPOSE:To obtain the titled sulfide at low cost with no pollution problems, suitable for extrusion forming applications such as films or fibers, by adding calcium chloride to the reaction system at a point when the conversion of a dihaloaromatic compound reached a specified value to continue the reaction. CONSTITUTION:A reaction is carried out in (A) a polar aprotic solvent (pref., N,N-dimethylacetamide) between, (B) a dihaloaromatic compound (pref., p- dichlorobenzene) and (C) an alkali metal halide (pref., sodium sulfide); and at a point when the conversion of the component B reached 60-98mol.%, (D) 0.05-5mol. per mol. of the component B, of calcium chloride is added to the system to continue the reaction, thus obtaining the objective sulfide.
