PURPOSE:To produce the title compound in high conversion and selectivity, by hydrogenating cyclopentadiene in the presence of a palladium catalyst and a modifier, thus causing no activity reduction in hydrogenation to the title compound and inhibiting the hydrogenation of cyclopentene. CONSTITUTION:Cyclopentadiene is selectively hydrogenated into cyclopentene almost completely in the presence of a palladium-containing catalyst and a modifier of the formula (R<1>, R<2> are H, alkyl of 10 or less carbon atoms; R2 is alkyl bearing OH), preferably monoethanolamine, 1-amino-2-propanol or 3- amino-1-propanol. Thus, cyclopentene of reduced contents of cyclopentadiene and cyclopentane is selectively obtained under mild conditions in a shortened residence time. |
