NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (OR<1> is OH which may be protected; R<2> is 1-7C alkyl or aryl; R<3> is H trisubstituted silyl). EXAMPLE:(3S,4R)-4-(Butyn-3-yl)-3-[(1R)-1-(tert-butyldimethylsily-loxy) ethyl]-2-aze tidinone. USE:An intermediate for synthesizing a 1beta-methylcarbapenem compound of antibi otic, obtained in a short process and in high yield from a readily obtainable or producible azetidinone compound as a raw material. PREPARATION:An azetidinone shown by formula II (X is electronegative group eliminable by reaction) is reacted with a stannylallene to give a beta-lactam com pound shown by formula III. Then this compound is successively reacted with a base and an organosilyl halide and further subjected to elimination reaction of trisubstituted sily group to give a compound shown by formula I.
