PURPOSE:To shorten the recovering time of a journal file by using a processing means which writes periodically the EOF position information on a control table to a journal file control block and then recovering a journal file via a journal file recovering means by means of the EOF position information stored in said file control block. CONSTITUTION:A processing means 13 is provided to write periodically the final valid record position and the EOF position information stored in an EOF position control table to a journal file control block while a data base control system is working. In addition, a journal file recovering means 12a ha function to start the check of the journal record based on the EOF position information stored in a journal file control block 10 and to detect the final valid record. In such a constitution, a journal file 9 can be recovered in a shorter time.
