The subject of the invention is a method and its device for determining the time which should elapse between two drops for a given volume of liquid in a given time and/or the predictable time for the flow of a given volume of liquid, on the basis of the determination of the effective flow time between two drops, in order to make it possible to adjust and/or check the flow rate of an infusion. It is provided with a sensor 10 which makes it possible to measure the time elapsed between two drops flowing through the drip, which sends the time signal to a computer 12; the said computer comprises memories and functions establishing a relationship between the time elapsed between two successive drops, a given quantity of liquid to be infused, and an infusion duration; keys 24, 25 allow the user to choose preset constants such as the volume of liquid 2 and the perfusion time, the measurement of the time between two drops can allow the user to adjust the flow rate regulator 8, placed on the infusion tube, to the correct speed. The invention is applicable in particular to parenteral infusion. <IMAGE>
