PURPOSE:To accurately execute the approaching/moving off a recording medium of heads by mounting a supporting arm providing a head block on an element capable of self-deforming. CONSTITUTION:When a head assembly is not loaded, an opening/closing flange 5b which is located on the top surface of a second supporting arm 5 and jutting out sideway, is lifted. Accordingly, the arm 5 a held in such a posture that its head block 7-aboard side is opened centering around a pin 4b. But, if the magnetic disk 8 is loaded, the lifting mechanism is released, and the second supporting arm 5 is closed by the action of a tension spring 4c. At this time, abutting surfaces 4d, 5d come in contact with each other, and accordingly first and second head blocks 6, 7 face each other in close vicinity. Thereafter, when a seak position to a target cylinder is transmitted, a carriage 4 is transferred along a guide shaft 1 to place the head blocks 6, 7 at the target cylinder.
