PURPOSE:To improve the sealing property of the title device, by closely attaching a seal roll, with which pinch rolls for clamping a strip at the outlet and inlet of the vacuum chamber in a chamber are brought into elastic contact, to a seal block fixed to the chamber through a plain bearing. CONSTITUTION:A couple of upper and lower metallic seal rolls 11 for clamping a strip S provided in parallel with a couple of upper and lower pinch rolls 10 and with which the rolls 10 are brought into elastic contact are closely attached to seal blocks 12 fixed to the chamber 13 and covering the outer periphery of the roll 11 with the plain bearing 14 in between. Consequently, the inflow of the atmosphere can be prevented by the pressing force F0 on the roll 10 received from an A chamber in addition to the elastic contact of the roll 10 with the roll 11, and the deflection of the roll 10 is supported by the bearing 14 and the seal block 12 through the roll 11. Although the atmosphere in the A chamber flows in the direction as shown by the arrow (a), the outflow of the atmosphere into a B chamber is blocked.
