PURPOSE:To correctly restore to a stereoscopic video signal by applying a synchronizing signal to a difference component signal between video signals for a left eye and a right eye, recording and reproducing. CONSTITUTION:Pictures for the right eye and the left eye are respectively converted to the video signals VR+sync, VL+sync in image pickup circuits 101, 102 for the right eye and the left eye. At this time, the circuit 102 synchronously operates through the synchronizing signal sync. The video signals for the right and the left eyes go to the difference component (parallax information) signal VL-VR thereof in an adder 103 and the synchronizing signal is applied to the difference component signal VL-VR in an adder 105. The signal VR+sync is FM modulated in an FM modulation circuit 106. The output of the adder 105 is 1/6 time base compressed via a BPF 107 in a time compression circuit 108. The outputs of the circuit 106 and the circuit 108 are recorded on a video track and an overlapping part on a magnetic tape 113 through recording amplifiers 110, 127 and video heads 112, 110 via switches 109, 126.
