PURPOSE:To use a rotary head drum in common for purpose of double-cassette operation by disposing two DAT cassettes facing to each other with the rotary head drum in the middle, and winding the respective tapes around the drum for a prescribed range. CONSTITUTION:The rotary head drum 1 has an upper drum 1a and a lower drum 1b, and the rotary head disk is disposed between these drums 1a, 1b. To this rotary head disk, a first head chip 2 and a second head chip 3 are provided in such positions that they face each other in an angle of 180 degrees to each other. The DAT cassettes 4, 5 are dispoased in lateral symmetry with the drum 1 in the center. The tapes 4a, 4b from the cassettes 4, 5 are guided by plural tape guides 6 and are made wind around the drum 1 for the angular range of 90 degrees of the central angle of the drum 1. Also, the direction of the rotational axis of the drum 1 is made vertical, and the tapes 4a, 4b are made incline by about 6 degrees. In such a way, a sound is recorded/ reproduced in/from the cassettes 4, 5 selectively in order to record the reproduc tion of a sound from each other.
