PURPOSE:To form sharp images without generating fogging and filming even after a toner is used many times by using a resin obtd. by bringing the carboxy group in a polymer and polyvalent metal compd. into reaction as the essential component of the toner. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic brush by a developer D is formed on a sleeve 2 and while the brush is oscillated, the latent image is passed in the spacing between said brush and an electrostatic latent image carrier 1 and is developed by the toner T. The toner T consists essentially of the resin obtd. by bringing the carboxy group existing in the polymer component and the polyvalent metal compd. into reaction. This resin is preferably the resin having the mol.wt. component distributions which can be divided to >=2 groups; the low mol.wt. component having 1X10<3>-2X10<4> max. value and the high mol.wt. component having 1X10<5>-2X10<6> max. value.
