PURPOSE:To completely exclude residue, to eliminate residue-caused locking, and thereby to improve yield and increase the press operation rate, by a method wherein a high vacuum is present in a hopper only when the top force of a press is at its lower dead point. CONSTITUTION:A punch 5 of a top force 1 punches through a metal stripe 2 through a stripper 3 fixed to a die 6 of the bottom force 4, and the top force 1 arrives at its lower bottom point, when residue 7 produced in the punching process is retained in the die 6 of the bottom force 4. A rubber suction hopper 8 installed at the lower portion of the bottom force 4 is coupled with a vacuum generating unit, which realizes a momentary high vacuum only when the top force 1 is at its lower dead point. The residue 7 retained in the die 6 leaves the die 6 to be sucked into the hopper 8. The top force 1 begins to rise at a point C and reaches its upper dead point, where the vacuum is reduced to the atmospheric pressure in the hopper 8 in preparation for the next punching process. The cycle is repeated for the pressing work. Residue does not come up to damage the product, and the press is protected from stoppage due to residue lock.
