PURPOSE:To execute highly precise positioning by providing on a data recording surface auxiliary survo tracks of more than one, collating with them, detecting an error between a survo track and the auxiliary survo tracks and returning it to a positioning circuit. CONSTITUTION:With the instruction of a controller 100, the positioning circuit 205 instructs a signal amplifier circuit 202 to select a desired R/W head, and asks a circuit 207 the necessity of the update of a correction value. The circuit 207 reports a characteristic at every prescribed time by the signal of a clock circuit 206. A circuit 205 reports to the controller 100 by the set completion notice of the characteristic of the desired head. The controller 100 decides the auxiliary survo track which reaches the designated track at a shortest time. The circuit 205 instructs a structure 204, corrects the positioning of the head, detects 201 a deviation and stores 208 it. If correction terminates, the controller 100 instructs the circuit 205 of positioning, the structure 204 executes positioning. The controller 100 reads the corresponding deviation from a memory 208 and the structure 204 executes fine adjustment.
