PURPOSE:To reproduce an image with high definition and high quality even in an optional original by applying binarizing processing based on adjusted error data and image data. CONSTITUTION:Image data of an original read by an input sensor section 10 or various data are fed to a threshold value processing section 13 for binarization via an A/D converter 11 and a shading correction circuit 12. The processing section 13 adds gradation picture data 30 to be corrected and a dither signal 31 to obtain a corrected picture element, applies binarization by a prescribed threshold value and supplies the image data to a display section 22. Moreover, the binarized error is obtained from binary image data and a corrected picture element to adjust it. Thus, the amplitude of the dither signal 31 is varied, resulting in adjusting the contrast of the image at a display section 22.
