PURPOSE:To remove fixing component parts for a printing carrier before starting printing and eliminate troublesome labor for storing the fixing component parts, by forming the fixing component parts from a shape memory alloy capable of returning to an original shape when being heated. CONSTITUTION:A printing carrier 4 performs printing while being moved on a shaft 6. A component part 1 having a heater 3 is fixed to a frame 5 by a screw 7. In this condition, the carrier 4 can be moved in a printing width direction. However, when the carrier 4 is located at the right end (or left end) in the printing width direction, the carrier 4 is fixed by deforming the part 1 to a position 2 for inhibiting the movement of the carrier 4. When a power source is then switched ON, heating by the heater 3 is started, whereby the part 1 formed of a shape memory alloy is returned from the position 2 to a position 1, resulting in that the carrier can be moved. The heating is conducted for a period of time sufficient for the part 1 to return from the position 2 to the position 1.
