PURPOSE:To prevent a paper from slipping off from the position of bail rollers and enable the paper to be set in the state of leaving no gap between the paper and a platen, by a method wherein at the time of automatic paper setting, the paper is fed forward by N lines beyond a predetermined setting position, is then fed backward by N+A lines, and is further fed forward by A lines to bring the paper to the setting position. CONSTITUTION:In an auto-loading mode, a paper is inserted, upon which the paper is fed forward by S+N lines when a paper detection signal is present. In this case, S lines correspond to an initial moving quantity at the time of paper setting, whereby a predetermined paper setting position is defined. After the further N-line feeding, the paper is fed backward by N+A lines, after which the paper is fed forward by A lines, and is stopped. As a result, there is no gap left between the paper and a platen 11. Since the N-line forward feeding is performed first, the paper does not slip off from the position of bail rollers 27 even when the projecting quantity of the leading end of the paper beyond the bail rollers 27 is small, provided that the projecting quantity is at least A lines. Thus, the paper can be set into close contact with the platen 11. |
