PURPOSE:To produce the title sol which is stable and easy to handle without conversion into gel even under drastic conditions by adding an alkali solution to the sol formed by mixing a specific acidic titania sol with a water-soluble organic compound. CONSTITUTION:Titanium hydroxide is deflocculated with at least one of monobasic acid selected from hydrochloric, nitric, acetic, chloric and chloracetic acids to form an acidic titania sol of pH1-3 and TiO2 1-40wt.% concentration. A water-soluble organic compound such as ethylene glycol of 1-100wt.% concentration is added so that the weight ratio to TiO2 becomes 0.1-5 and they are mixed. Then, an alkaline solution such as aqueous ammonia is added as a neutralizer to adjust the pH to 6-8 and, when needed, the salts formed by neutralization are removed by ultrafiltration or ion-exchange. |
