NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R is H or 1-3C alkyl; R<1> and R<2> are H, halogen or 1-3C alkyl; when both R and R<2> are H, R<1> is not 2-methyl or 3-methyl). EXAMPLE:Benzoyloxamide 1-phenylhydrazone. USE:A herbicide exhibiting excellent herbicidal effect especially against broad- leaved plants and free from phytotoxicity to crops such as rice, wheat and corn. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting an aniline derivative of formula II with nitrous acid, reacting the product with 2-phenyl-2-oxazolin-5-one and then reacting with an amine derivative.
